What is Mat Pilates?

Whether you're new to Mat Pilates or developing your practice, our classes at Whitespace in Milton Keynes are designed to help you build core strength, improve posture, and move with greater control. Enjoy a supportive environment where every session is focused on precision, balance, and long-term wellbeing.

Mat Pilates is the foundation of the Pilates method - a series of controlled, precise movements performed on the mat using your own bodyweight. Unlike Reformer Pilates, which uses specialised equipment, Mat Pilates relies on stability, balance, and control, making it an accessible yet highly effective way to build strength, co-ordination, and body awareness.

"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a new body."

- Joseph Pilates

Frequently Asked Questions

Pilates can be a safe and effective form of exercise for people with injuries or health conditions, but it's important to consult with a doctor or physical therapist before starting a Pilates program. Modified exercises can be used to accommodate injuries or conditions.

Ideally, Pilates should be practiced 2-3 times per week for optimal results. Consistency is key, so regular practice is important to see improvments in strength flexibility, and posture.

Pilates can be an effective form of exercise for people with back pain. By strengthening the core muscles and improving posture, Pilates can help back pain and prevent future injuries

While Pilates is not typically a weight-loss-focused exercise, it can be a great complement to a weight loss program. Pilates can help tone and strengthen the body, which can improve metabolism and help with weight loss.

Results from Pilates can vary depending on factors such as frequency of practice, fitness level, and diet. Some people may see improvements in strength, flexibility and posture within a few weeks, while others may take longer to see results.
